More people on this earth now have access to mobile phones than have access to running water and toilets. There are an estimated 4.2 Billion people who have a toothbrush and 4.6 billion who have a mobile subscription! It takes 26 hours for the average person to report a lost wallet. It takes 68 minutes for them to report a lost phone. In some countries, there are more mobile subscriptions than there are people. These statistics alone show how much importance is placed on mobiles in today's climate.
Mobile phones are now the new fashion accessory. The marketing and advertising industry has influenced how people perceive their mobile phones. This is to adapt to the changing demands of modern life and to draw in new users from different generations. The Korean company LG for example, is making a big sale in the worldwide market with their high end fashion phones.
Many consumers are beginning to identify their personality and individuality with the type of phone or model they carry. Just as many plan their wardrobe for the season ahead, they also accessorise their mobile phone with accessories.
Gone are the days of your gsm phone merely being a tool to keep in touch with loved ones and send lunchtime text messages to your friends. These days, mobile phones are as much a part of your own personal look as the kinds of shoes you wear. People are looking and, whether they mean to or not, are silently judging your choice of phone cover, color, and type.
In the same way that consumers mix and match their wardrobes, mobile phones are offered with inifinite possibilities of customisation (apps, widgets, ringtones, covers, themes, etc) that allow you to perfectly co-ordinate your phone to match your mood and your wardrobe.
Take a look at the next stylish person you see walking down the street on the phone. I bet they're not clutching a retro Nokia 3210 to their ear. It's probably an LG phone, or some other clever Android device with curves that bring out the best in their hands...
Now be honest, how many of us meticulously check the spec to find out which gadget is the best? If they're halfway similar then I reckon most people would just go for the one that looks best. It's important now to get the thinnest, shiniest, best looking fashion phone available.
A fashion phone is a statement. Some of these high end fashion accessories are sure to turn some heads and tell onlookers you're well off. Sometimes functionality alone doesn't cut it - you need to dress for the occasion. That used to mean a watch, cufflinks, ties and such but now you need a phone too.
