Google to Cut Gmail From Blackberry

Google Inc, the developer of Android software, has decided to cut the Gmail application for Blackberry phones that are made by their rival, Research in Motion Ltd.

Unfortunately for many Blackberry customers the widely used, and popular app will no longer appear on the phones that they create in the future. However, Blackberry users who already have the application in their phones may still continue using the service.

RIM have been finding a way to cease their operations and business from declining due to the decrease in demand of their smart phones in the market. One of the main reasons for such decline is the popularity of Android phones and Apple devices which have pushed ahead in the smartphone market, dominating the current inustry with their popular devices.

Google's decision to pull out their Gmail app from Blackberry may sound like an inconvenience to Blackberry users but more than that, it should be a red alarm for Research in Motion, according to Roger Entner, an analyst and founder of Recon Analytics LLC from Dedham, Massachusetts.

He went on to say, "It's a more symbolic gesture, as if you want it to work you can make it work but the app makes it easier."

Even if the Google Mail app is gone from Blackberry phones, users can still access their accounts through the browser itself. They can also try to sync their Google account with the Blackberry service, which is a plus.

Google has announced that while they have ceased developing applications for Blackberry, the company intends to put more spotlight on improving mobile browser experience instead.

There has been a decrease in the global smart phone market for RIM, according to the research firm IDC. In the same light, another research firm called Canalys has said that the Research in Motion market share declined to 9 percent from its previous 24 percent, just in the United States alone.

Research in Motion is now putting their efforts in developing a new range of devices and a new operating system in order to bring back their customers and market share.

It looks like a long way up for the company especially if the likes of Google are pulling back some of their services. It not only causes issues for RIM themselves but after the end of year fiasco they had in 2011, it could also break the trust and interest in customers around the world.
