Palm Pixi Plus GSM With WebOS Touch Screen 2 MP Camera And Wi-Fi

At one time, Palm was "the" name in the handheld market and while it was not strictly a phone, it could be synchronized with your desktop computer so that one could receive and place emails, although phone calls were out of the question but that has changed now as Palm has joined the ranks for those offering AT&T's GSM WiFi phone service.

In the mid- to late-1990s, the name Palm and its operating system were the powerhouses in the handheld market. With the right dock hooked to your desktop and the right software, one could send and receive emails, as well as text. One could also create documents and, if your PC had a mailing system and could use the Microsoft Mail Exchange server, one could mail those documents to another user who could then sync his or her Palm device and take the document along in their Palm handheld.

Now Palm has entered the Internet phone market with its Pixi Plus, a very reasonably priced and sized Internet-based phone that gives one access to the entire AT&T GSM/EDGE/GPRS quad-band phone spectrum at 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz and its UMTS/HSDPA dual-band service at 850 and 1900 MHz. This spectrum will not work with CDMA-based networks offered by Verizon, Sprint or Alltel.

Like Blackberrys, one of the features that users who like real keyboards will find an attraction is its full, front-mounted QWERTY-style keyboard. Using this backlighted keyboard, one can easily send text messages or email messages quite quickly, while touchscreen-based keyboards can be very slow if you must use a stylus to generate the message. The keyboard is also compatible with the social media sites Facebook, Google and Linked-In

The Pixi is a surprisingly good phone at an attractive price. It's about average-sized at 4.37 by 0.43 by 2.17 inches, weighing a total of 3.2 ounces. Don't let its size and weight fool you, the Pixi offers you talk time of about five-and-a-half hours before it needs a trip to the charging cable.

Its high-contrast color display is about two-and-a-half inches and can act as a touchscreen, if necessary as can all small phones. That display unlocks the world of AT&T's 20,000-plus national hotspots to you as this is a WiFi 802.11 phone. This makes the Pixi compatible with AT&T's Navigator GPS system that gives you turn-by-turn directions to a site.

The Pixi can be equipped with up to 8 GB of internal memory and features a 2 MP camera/camcorder. Given the number of applications that are built in to the Pixi, you will find that you have more internal memory available for video or images than you think. Remember, though, that the 2 MP camera is good for home snaps or quick shots. It is not meant for high resolution video (usually a 3.2 MP camera is best for home photography as this is roughly 640 by 480 - VGA standard - and shows up best on other camera or computer systems). Still, a 2 MP automatic camera/camcorder - a device that allows you to take videos - is a nice addition, especially when you can use the entire screen as the viewfinder for the Pixi.

Finally, the Palm Pixi shows that Bluetooth is for more than just answering a headset/phone or pairing with your vehicle's phone system, you can use it to stream audio. Bluetooth operates in a specific range of frequencies and since it is an RF-based system, you can take any audio source to which you might happen to be listening, such as an audio service, and then allows you to stream the audio through another, remote Bluetooth device. It is a nice feature that rounds out a a very nice offering at a price that won't break the bank but which will still work well.

Galaxy Nexus First Impressions

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus may be a smartphone that people have not heard about with the big commercials for Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X. After watching Google I/O and learning that the Galaxy Nexus will be getting Jelly Bean I decided to order one. I just received my new Galaxy Nexus and this is my first impressions of the phone.

I ordered my Galaxy Nexus from the Google play store and it is an unlocked HSPA+ phone that will work on any GSM carriers like AT&T or T-mobile. The first thing I noticed about the Galaxy Nexus was the display. The stunning 4.65 inch Super AMOLED display makes using the phone so much better since the apps and videos are much clearer than my old Samsung Galaxy S2. This phone has several options for unlocking you can use Face unlock which works pretty well or you can have a pattern or pin to unlock the phone. The Galaxy Nexus doesn't have any physical buttons which leaves more room on the phone for the screen. The side buttons are not up towards the top of the phone but instead they are in the middle which makes using them easier and less of a stretch for the fingers to reach.

The Galaxy Nexus comes with Ice Cream Sandwich 4.04 Android newest OS and has many cool features that improve the android experience. One of the big sells for this phone is that it is a pure android phone, meaning that when you buy a phone it comes with a ton of apps that you don't want or need. These apps are called bloatware because they waste space on the phone and generally slow it down and because the manufacturers want the apps on the phone you can't delete them. But the Galaxy Nexus only has what Google wants the phone to have which means the phone is faster. Also because this is Google's phone the Galaxy Nexus will get updates as soon as Google releases them without having to wait for manufacturers to release theirs. Jelly Bean which is the next release of Android is being released from Google soon and the Galaxy Nexus will be the first phone to get it through OTA and unless you put a custom rom on your phone you will have to wait for months for Jelly Bean.

When I first started my Galaxy Nexus there are many features that greatly improve the smartphone experience from Honeycomb. There are 3 buttons on the bottom of the screen at all times and the buttons are back, home, and other windows. The third is really cool the button will bring up a list of recently closed apps on the phone. Being able to switch back and forth between two apps is very helpful to me. The phone has a different lockscreen as well, the lockscreen lets you either open the camera, open Google search, or unlock the phone which allows me to access the camera quickly or use Google search without having to unlock the phone. When you open the app drawer you can access apps, widgets, and the play store from one place.

Things I don't like:

The main downside for the Galaxy Nexus is that there is no sd card slot so you are stuck with either 16gbs or 32gbs phone space. After saying that unless you have a ton of music or videos you shouldn't run into a problem of no free space. Google is trying to get Android users to have all their media on Google Play and streaming it to your device. Another downside to the phone is that the camera is very disappointing. The camera has some great features like panoramic and fast shooting but the camera hardware just isn't as nice as other smartphone cameras on the market.

Tech Specs:

Other than the amazing display the phones comes with a 1.2 GHZ dual core processor with 1gb of ram and if you buy from Google 16gb of ram. The phone has a beautiful 1280x720 resolution pentile display. The 1,850mAh battery give the phone a long battery life, the longest mine has gone is around 23 hours which is a huge improvement over my old Samsung Galaxy S 2. The phone has NFC (Near Field Communication) which works with Android beam so you can transfer contacts to another NFC device, or use NFC tags to automate activities.Even though the phone is pretty big it fits in my hand really well and is easy to hold. The battery cover on the phone is not smooth and has a mesh feel which makes it easier to hold on to without worrying about dropping it.

What I like:

I really like the overall quickness you get by using an ICS phone. The three onscreen buttons including recent apps is a great feature on this phone. I also like the improved lockscreen so if you are in a rush you can go directly into camera or Google search. The new app drawer with access to widgets and play store is a great addition to have on an Android phone. The phone's display is a huge plus and anyone that picks it up will notice a difference over there other phone. The crazy battery life on the phone is something that really surprised me and it will take awhile for me to get used to not having to charge my phone every couple of hours.

Overall:

After getting my new phone and having a chance to use it for awhile I have to say that it has exceeded my expectations. A phone that has so many nice features and a great display that is running the latest Android OS for only $329 from the play seems like a great deal to me. If you are looking into getting a new phone but don't want to spend $700 for the Samsung Galaxy S 3 than the Galaxy Nexus is a great phone and I recommend buying it.

Samsung Galaxy Ace

The powerful and slim Samsung Galaxy Ace is full of features that will take you a long time to get to grips with. However, once you do you will feel as though you have one of those on-board computers with you at all times. It really is all-singing and all-dancing. The first thing you will notice about Samsung's Galaxy Ace is the slim and tough casing. It also has a fair bit of weight to it for its size.

Beneath the tough exterior and not so full bodied slim chassis lies a smartphone with more than just a way to connect a phone call with your family and friends. The swipe feature is one that really works. That would be until you get it out in the rain. Do not get the front screen wet as the sensitivity tends to malfunction. The display on this is great because we have a three-and-a-half inch screen which is just dandy when you want to view those videos you have taken and also perfect for watching those YouTube videos.

If you really want to get to grips with all that is good in the Samsung Galaxy Ace then look towards its operating system and the apps. The operating system is the Android 2.2 and it works like a dream. The Android apps that are available are simply too huge to mention. The look of the phone is good and it is well shaped with a position in the higher end of the Samsung range of smartphones. It has a great feature in the Google Maps icon; a pristine working GPS to run it and accuracy that will really impress. Just recently we travelled from London to Bristol and I was a passenger sitting in the front seat navigating. My sister, who was driving asked if we could avoid the M4 motorway as the journey by the A roads is far more scenic. I happily agreed as the M4 is one of those motorways that have a sound barrier on both sides for several miles and the driving is enough to send even the more alert drivers into a slumber.

I had my Samsung Galaxy Ace and we noticed that each time we passed through a scenic little market town in the Thames Valley we were spending endlessly long spells on the A4 before reaching the next town. My sister would say, "Surely we should be in Swindon by now?" At that point I would check the Samsung Galaxy Ace's Google Map feature and it displayed our exact position on the map.

Samsung Xchange: The Smart Connection

The company website advertises the Samsung Xchange as being an application with a difference. While basic users need not go into details about the technology behind this application, they do need to know that this is a CTI. CTI or Computer Telephone Integration technology allows interactions on a telephone and a computer to be coordinated. This integration increases desktop based interactions and automatic call routing while allowing functions that are server based. Blending the features of command line interface and customer relationship management, this application has been designed to improve the productivity of office-based users.

When the telephone receives a call, the caller's number is displayed in a display window. The number is routed through the relationship database and if the caller's identity is found the name is also displayed along with the number. With prior knowledge of who is on the line, the user can handle the call accordingly. Employees in front office roles, sales teams and consumer help desks will find this feature very useful. The user can also use the notification window to answer the call or find the caller's prior record. It is also possible to find a name in the database and speed dial the number. Finding known callers and adding new callers in the database is easy with this application.

But the Samsung Xchange offers a lot more than just caller identification. The user can take the call while sitting comfortably in front of his personal computer. The internal control allows the user to manage calls that are not in the relationship database. The application also maintains a detailed call history. All the numbers the user has dialed, all the people who have called on the phone and all the calls that have been missed are stored and recorded. Users of this application can say goodbye to the fear of missed calls. Marketing managers need not worry about losing a client because they were away from their seat.

The Samsung Xchange allows other users to see the present status of colleagues. The application will tell them if the user is in the office, out of the office or in a meeting. The boss can keep a track of where his subordinates are and what they are doing. It is also possible for users to dial numbers from anywhere. Whether it is from a web page or another database system, every point is an access point for this application.

Normal functions like call transfer and holding, call deflections and setting messages can also be done with a minimum of fuss. But the most wonderful quality of the Samsung Xchange is the ease with which new users can learn to use this application. It is possible to bid goodbye to common telephone mistakes. Users will be able to communicate better and maintain a better professional relationship with their clients and colleagues. A smart phone allows a business to connect better.

Samsung Galaxy Beam - More Than Interesting

You have to admit it, it's not everyday that you get to see a smartphone with built-in projector. It is also not that common today. Back in 2010, Samsung released its first projector smartphone and they named it the Samsung Galaxy Beam. You may not see any of the old Galaxy Beam around, but if you look in the right place, you will. Forward to 2012, Samsung released a newer version of this handset and named it the Galaxy Beam as well.

It is quite sad that the production of the first Galaxy Beam did not hit the masses. But in Asia, it was a different story. But still, if the first projector phone by Samsung was able to reach the US and Europe market then it will be a different story. With its 3.7" AMOLED display and 8MP shutter with 720p video recording capability, it was a superb handset back in 2010.

Moving on, Samsung have decided to give their first projector phone a wider audience through the new Samsung Galaxy Beam. Yes it missed a huge opportunity when it failed to appear during the Mobile World Congress 2012, but then again here it is now out in the open. Samsung have decided to be careful this time around and who can blame them? The new Beam may be a downgrade of its original version (i.e. AMOLED to LCD, memory cut down to half, slashed camera MP, etc.) but then again it comes in with an upgraded processing prowess. With its 1GHz dual-core processor, you sure can bet on it that this is a speedy handset. Even though the new Beam lost a couple of camera resolutions, its new 15 lumens truly makes up for it. The doubled RAM is also a welcomed addition to the handset. It may not be a total upgrade but at the same time it is also not a total downgrade.

So what else can you expect from this handset? Well, there is the phone's 2,000 mAh battery. There is also the Wi-Fi connectivity option. You will also get the Polaris Office document viewer and editor. The phone runs on Android Gingerbread with TouchWiz 4.0. This handset now comes in with a bigger display screen at 4" with 16M colors (480 x 800 pixels). The phone's new dimensions are at 124 x 64.2 x 12.5 mm and it weighs in at 145.3 grams only.

These are just some of the things that you will enjoy on the latest Samsung Galaxy Beam. This is Samsung's newest projector phone and this is more than interesting.

BlackBerry Messenger On The BlackBerry Bold 9900

BlackBerry smartphones are very popular, due largely to the BlackBerry Messenger service (or BBM for short). This allows users to send messages to each other for free, provided the intended recipient also has a BlackBerry device and an active BBM account. In this article I will look at the benefits of this feature, using the popular BlackBerry Bold 9900 as an example.

The BlackBerry Bold makes it very easy to operate the BBM feature thanks largely to its full QWERTY keyboard along with a touchscreen which aids navigation of the user interface, along with a thumb operated optical trackpad as an alternative.

BBM is like no other messaging service for several reasons. Not only can you send and receive text messages for free, but with the latest version as found on the BlackBerry Bold 9900, you also have the option to send media items such as photos and videos which are captured on the handset's 5 megapixel camera. With a new level of app integration, you can also view what music your friends have been listening to on their BlackBerry smartphone as well as recommend app which you have downloaded from BlackBerry App World, which is RIM's equivalent of the Apple AppStore or Google Play for Android operated devices.

Because the BBM service is free on handsets like the BlackBerry Bold 9900, you have the potential to save a lot of money that would otherwise be spent on sending SMS and MMS messages, so you can choose a cheap tariff and send unlimited messages.

Of course the BlackBerry Messenger service is a major part of the appeal of BlackBerry handsets in general, particularly the BlackBerry Bold 9900, however there are plenty of other features which make it a great all round smartphone. As mentioned, there is the trademark Bold Qwerty keyboard, a touchscreen and 5 megapixel camera, but also there is a powerful 1.2 GHz processor, fast internet browsing via Wi-Fi and 3G connections and 8 GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD slot) and A-GPS support which comes with BlackBerry Maps as standard.

If you are looking for a great all round handset which performs everyday tasks well, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is a great choice. If you send a lot of messages, it is a particularly good choice as the BBM service allows you to do this for free, which the Qwerty keyboard makes it an easy task.

10 Reasons Why the Samsung Galaxy SIII Is the Best Smartphone to Date!

Starting from the inside out, what makes the SIII the 'future-proof' phone:

1. It's a quad-core! Yes, it's finally here, the processing technology from the future. If you thought that dual-cores were cool, then the processor humming within the SIII is epic! Forget about your average social networking and browsing; the SIII can render 3D games like child's play and multi-tasking is virtually 'lag-free'.

2. An icing on the cake called Android. The SIII runs on Android's latest Ice Cream Sandwich platform which is very charming, user-friendly and stocked with amazing features. You can completely customize the SIII with widgets and various themes to make it look like it's truly yours. It comes with complete social network integration too!

3. The intuitive TouchWiz interface. Now in its 4th version the SIII's user interface still stand to impress with its cool functionality. The app tray is divided into apps and widgets, increasing the easiness of usability. Quick access to running apps and a personal gaming center(partnered with Gameloft) make it even more irresistible.

4. Super AMOLED Display. Deep, vivid colors combined with sharp visuals. A sight to sooth sore eyes. This is the best technology available as of now and it couldn't get any better!

5. New technology. Take Smart Stay, a really cool feature which uses the phone's front facing camera to capture your eye movements to keep the screen locked/unlocked. It switches off the screen when you're not looking and is really helpful when you're reading long articles (without having the need of touching the screen every few seconds). PopUp is another cool offering; you can literally watch a video while texting a friend, without any lag! S Voice, Samsung's answer to SIRI is another helpful feature to get your work done through voice commands.

6. A camera to die for. I'm not serious, but the camera on board the SIII really packs the 'pixel punch'. Clean, crisp photos with not too much exposure and video recording at the industry standard 1080p FullHD. The LED flash does it's job, illuminating dark areas and giving some good snaps in the end. Over that you have features like Burst Mode(multiple pictures in quick succession) and instant sharing.

Well, we looked inside the SIII and needless to say, we're impressed. Now coming to the design, who said you can't judge a book by its cover.

7. A polycarbonate casing. The tank technology for smartphones. It keeps the SIII sturdy and light at the same time. The hyperglaze coating on the back adds a 'celestial' sheen to the phone... well not literally, but it's aesthetically appealing.

8. Customizable from the inside. Even though it comes with a low inbuilt memory(of 16GB), it can be expanded through micro SD cards(upto 64GB!). This really beats the trending 'unibody' design in which you can't even change the battery if it gets damaged.

9. A killer battery! Just make a guess, what's the best battery life you've ever come across for a 'high-end' smartphone, 11, 12 or even 13 hours? Well, then make way for the SIII because it can go on for 16.5 hours! on a single charge! And this includes heavy browsing, social networking and 3D gaming with 3G connectivity. It's functionality that's looooooong lasting.

And last but definitely not the least: PRICE

10. It's not a WOWser, but it's definitely much lesser than hyped up 'high-end' devices such as the iPhone. At a little above $600(USA), you get style, functionality and safety all-in-one and the price should depreciate after some time, making it a top buy.

If I could express what the Samsung Galaxy SIII is like in one phrase, it would be "The Future in your Hands" and I must say it's very apt. You can really get an idea of how smartphones are going to be in the future boasting rich screens and powerful hardware.

If there's one thing I don't like about the SIII, it's the advertorial catchphrase- "Designed for Humans"? Well we can conclude that the Aliens will feel jealous and that will spark another Alien Invasion!
